Find info concerning Atlanta Technical College agriculture program, registering for required degree courses, and taking free tests online. Whether you are considering an associates degree in electronics engineering, or a bachelor of science in EECS, mechanical or civil engineering, you will find many doors opening after graduation. If you complete the agriculture program, for example, there are a variety of concentrations that may appeal to you such as crop and soil science, agribusiness, or hydroponic production methods. Further, due to advances in agricultural science, there is a growing shortage of agriculture program graduates, and of skilled agricultural engineers in general. Agricultural technology, and crop science in general, includes traditional cross-breeding techniques, trait selection, and genetic engineering in some cases. Biotech crops can make farming more profitable by increasing crop quality and may in some cases increase crop yields. According to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), biotechnology crops as a percentage of total crop plantings in the USA were about 88 percent for corn, 94 percent for cotton, and 93 percent for soybeans. Herbicide-tolerant crops are particularly compatible with commercial agriculture programs that help preserve topsoil from erosion.

USDA researchers seek to solve major agricultural problems and to better understand the basic plant biology relating to agricultural technology. This includes introducing new or improved traits in plants, animals, and microorganisms and creating new biotechnology-based products such as more effective diagnostic tests, improved farm animal vaccines, and better antibiotics. The USDA Economic Research Service (ERS) conducts research on the economic aspects of the use of genetically engineered plants, including the rate of adoption of new agriculture programs by farmers.

Aerospace Engineering Programs

Aerospace engineers may design aircraft, space vehicles, satellites, and missile systems. In addition, they test prototypes to make sure that they function according to design. Aerospace engineers are employed in building, analysis and design of commercial aircraft, missile systems for national defense, or spaceships. Aerospace engineers are employed primarily in manufacturing, research and development, and must have a bachelors degree in aerospace engineering or another related field. In addition, aerospace engineers that work on projects that are related to national defense will need a security clearance.

Aerospace operations technicians and mechanics, on the other hand, need only an associates degree to begin earning a good salary. They operate and maintain equipment used in developing, testing, and producing new aircraft and spacecraft. Increasingly, these workers must be able to use computer-based modeling (CAD) and simulation tools in their work. Certification is offered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Both companies and the FAA seek to ensure the highest standards for the safety of the aircraft. In fact, SpaceTEC, the National Science Foundation Center for Aerospace Technical Education, coordinates a nationwide program through community and technical colleges to help students prepare for certification. The median annual wage for aerospace engineers with a bachelors degree was $107,830, while aircraft technicians and mechanics holding an associate's degree earned $66,180, as of May 2015.

Engineering Job Listings

The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Thereafter, acquisition of a professional engineering license enables management of junior engineers, the ability to sign off on engineering projects, and provide services directly to the public. Wages vary by employer and location. Aside from salary, most engineering jobs include excellent benefits, as well as retirement plans.
